Monday Fun Day

Hi there blogging world on Monday our school had a Monday Fun Day. It was so much fun. I bought my bike and I taught some of my friends how to ride a bike. We did rotations between pool, games and wheels. I went to the pools first  we were split into three groups my group watched the water slide first then we went into the pool lastly we went on the water slide. It was really fun going on the water slide because we did lots of funny poses. The pool was also fun, there was lots of tackling, I liked finding rings under water. Next we had some games on the field. There was team tactics, softball and relaxing. Team tactics was really fun our team won! I loved when we were playing on our wheels it was so much fun. Luckily for me I had an ice block for lunch. I loved our Wheels day. Here are some photos:

Marine metre squared trip

Hi there blogging world, for this blog post we were told to blog about something that has happened this year that we have not blogged about yet. I decided to blog about our Marine Metre Squared beach trip. In term four about a month ago the whole senior syndicate when down to Waikowhai beach, sadly not to play. We had to pick up rubbish. Then in groups of four children and one adult, we  had to find a rock pool and use rope or poles to make a metre squared. Then we had to find out the percentages or numbers of sea creatures we found. I was very surprised about the things we found. I had so much fun and when we got back we had to enter our information into a survey. The whole program was organised by sea week . Sea week collects data from all over New Zealand
Here are some photos:

Gala day reflection

Hi there blogging world on the 25th of November our school had a gala day. I hope you were there, in my previous blog posts I was advertising about the Gala day and now sadly it has passed. It was so much fun I wish we could have another Gala day. Since Gala day is past we reflected on it. That is why we made a slideshow about the six thinking hats. We had to fill in the slideshow thinking about each hat and what we need to write.

I had so much fun at the Gala we raised about $13,400 for the new junior playground.  My slide show also includes photos about the fun we had. Next time I would add more photos since there is lot of photos. My reflection was also about making bags. Please leave a helpful comment and please checkout some of my other posts.

Gala Totebags

Hi there blogging, world soon it will be Waikowhai Primary School's (The school I go to) Gala day. For the Gala day each class is making a sustainable product to sell. In my last post I was advertising for my school's gala day this blog post is about how we made our tote bags (The product my class is making for the Gala day is tote bags) and the process of it. I hope you can come to the Gala checkout my last blog post to find out more information.
 Here is the process:

First we had to cut two pieces of calico that are the same size. On one piece of calico we used some stencils we made out of paper to be our stencil for screen-printing.

After we did our screen-printing we sewed the two pieces together using a simple straight line on the sewing machine. If you would like to you can pin the pieces of fabric together before you sew. Be sure when you are sewing that your screen-printing is facing inwards and not outwards. Also make sure you leave one side open and not sewn.

After you have sewn do not turn it back the right way yet! Now you must fold your hem over but only the side that was not sewn together make sure your fold is quite skinny. Once you have folded it over iron it. Then you sew a straight line down the hem that you folded over. Now repeat the steps on the other side.

Now to stop the fraying you must do zigzag stitching on three sides but not the one that is the top.

It is time to add strapping we just bought strapping from a shop and attached the straps by sewing a square.

Last but definitely not least you must sell your bag!

Here are some photos:

My reflection:

Sometimes when you do screen printing it can bleed so screen printing is quite hard to do. The reason we are making our tote bags is because plastic bags are a big part of global warming and our goal is to get people to use reusable bags more. The good part was designing our second bag I hand sewed sequins on my second one. I used to think that making tote bags would be hard but it is actually quite fun and easy. I would not do it by myself because there is lots of supplies I need that I don't have.

Gala Day

Hi there blogging world, this term for inquiry we have worked on advertisement.  We had to make a poster for our Gala day. First we had to do some note taking we did this on a google drawing. We had to state some examples of advertising you see like posters on the back of a bus or flyers etc. Then you had to  say how you are going to incorporate those ideas into your own poster. Here is the poster I made advertising our school's gala day. I hope you can come, all information is stated clearly in the poster down below.

reading review

Hi there blogging world for reading we had to read a book that we were assigned to read, then we made a reading review about the book we read. I have not finished my slideshow so this is only one slide. I think I did pretty well but I wrote the story line as I was reading the book so some of the facts were wrong ,  I changed them as I went.  I definitely recommend the book I read, which is called Cool Nukes and it is written by Des Hunt. I will soon be posting my whole slideshow. Please leave a comment on my blog.

Voting: National or Labour?

Hi there blogging world, for week nine we learnt about voting. We learnt about how to vote. This Saturday most of your parents will be voting .  Will they vote for  Labour, National or  another party.

This is how you vote: To vote you first have to enrol online or  call the Electoral Commission. After you have enrolled you should get an information pack in the mail. First we had to find out what electorate we were in. You can find it on elections.org.nz.  For your parents to vote they don't need to find their electorate  because it will already be there when they enrol. For your parents to vote they must find the voting booth nearest to them. We had to do the same except our voting booth was in the classroom because we set up a fake one. We had to say our first and last name and our electorate and address. Then the people behind the desk crossed our name out and gave us the voting paper for our electorate. There are two parts to the voting paper there is a party and a MP (member of parliament) If you vote for National it does not  mean you have to vote for the MP that belongs to National. Voting is very fun. Since I am not old enough to vote, our votes will be included into a survey for the gouverment.

How to write a good comment

Hi there blogging world and For cyber smart we learnt about writing a smart comment. First we had to go to the Ako Hiko website and pick an individual blog as an example. I chose Essa from Owairaka District School. Next we had to  fill in the slideshow template. Then we had to make a screen-castify explaining  the slideshow and explaining how to write a good comment. I hope you learn something from my video because every Friday we have to write a comment so I  think that I am very good at commenting and hopefully I helped you too so you can use those skills to write a comment on my blog. Here is my video:

Crazy science magic show

Hi there blogging world! On Monday we had a magical experience because the crazy science show came to our school. The science people were called Richard and Robin. Robin was the D.J and Richard was the scientist. Before the show started he did a few magic tricks. Richard asked us if we thought it was magic or science most of the people thought it was magic. Then Richard explained that magic is science. So I guess science is the new cool😎.  My favourite part was when he threw the grain in the air and it made fire. The reason he made fire is because to make fire you need heat, oxygen and some sort of flammable thing. With grain when it is packed tightly and you add heat there is no fire. Why? because there is no oxygen but if you added heat to the grain and throw it in the air it makes fire.  We also did an experiment with nappies. Richard poured the powder out of a nappy and put it into a cup the powder is called polymer. Then he got yellow water that looked like pee and added it to the polymer and when he decided to pour it out it was a solid and not a liquid. I really liked having the crazy science show come to our school I hope they come again. One question I would ask Richard was why after he threw the grain in the air the fire  faded away after a second? When I go home I am going to put a ping pong ball on top of my hair dryer and turn the air cold and blow it to see if it will stay even when I move my hair dryer.

Forlorn song

HI there blogging world. In week five we went on a ski camp. I then wrote a couplet poem about the snow mountains and about how I hardly see snow since I live in Auckland.  I all so drew and coloured an illustration. A couplet poem is a poem when the last two words of the sentence rhyme.  First we planned our poem in our literacy book. Then we planned our illustrations in our art books. Then we did our good copy and we also coloured it in. My poem is called Forlorn song here is a picture of my poem and it's illustration.

                             Forlorn song
The big blue sky
Lies above the mountain so high
Snow so white and pale
Just like a fairy tale
The air lies cold
While I wait to be told
The breeze so mild
The kids go wild
A layer of frost so thin
My face forms a grin
For once I feel like I belong
In this forlorn song

Mt Ruapehu camp

Hi there blogging world, I recently just went on  a school camp. For school camp we went skiing and snow boarding  at Mount Ruapehu. I had so much fun. We also had lots of stops. This slide show contains every detail about my trip please read it through. The challenges of camp were skiing. On the first day I couldn't quite pick it up but on the second day I was whizzing up and down the mountain. There was plenty of other activities to do  on the mountain other then skiing and snowboarding. I also went sight seeing on the chairlift and I went tobogganing. The dinner was also quite yum I loved the lasagna . During the long bus rides me and my friend Joyce learnt the universal alphabet we also made our own alphabets. My name in the universal alphabet is  Delta Oscar Romeo Alpha. Another challenge was getting off the chairlift I fell two times but after I could get off the chairlift properly.

In the process of skiing I fell down a lot and I mean a lot. From my camp experience I learnt to not give up and I learnt to persevere and when I persevered I learnt how to ski.
Please comment down below telling me a time when you had to persevere too Blog ya later

Ako Hiko student led toolkits

On Thursday some people from Waikowhai Primary School went to New Windsor primary school. I was one of them. We went of New Windsor Primary school for Ako Hiko Student Led toolkit. There was lots of fun activities here is a video of what I liked about my experience on Thursday and what I learnt.

It was really fun first we had to check in and we got a name badge saying what sessions we were in. Then we all assembled in the auditorium. We then had a coding competition we used little rolling robots controlled by an I pad and we had to complete a course I did not do it but Lily and Max did. Here is a photo.
We also did a problem solving challenge  and we did a prize draw some one from our school won a chromecast. Here are some photos of the problem solving challenge.

We also did sessions I chose to do powtoon and prodigy  I already know how to use prodigy but I don't know how to use powtoon so I learnt how to do that. Also all the sessions were student led. It was really fun. Here are some photos of my super fun experience.

It was very fun, sadly I will not be able to go next year because I will be in intermediate. But it was really fun interacting with other people from the Ako Hiko cluster .

suffixes

Hi there blogging world, this week for literacy I made a suffixes poster. My poster is very simple but it tells you what a suffix is. Next time I would add more detail to my poster. I did not find anything challenging because I watched a suffix video and it tells you some suffix examples and what suffixes mean. I tried to make my poster as appealing as possible so it can attract people to read my suffixes poster. Please comment what you liked and didn't like about my suffixes poster. I hope that if you didn't know what a suffix is that by reading my poster you now know. Blog ya later

Procedure

This is a procedure I did in writing time. I included strong verbs and specific nouns. Feel free to try the recipe and give me some feedback if you made it. Our writing teacher said for each step in a procedure it needs to start with a bossy or strong verb. There is a success criteria and I have tried to complete everything on the criteria. This work was fun and fairly easy to write because I already know the recipe because my mum makes lots of things from scratch. Please comment on my blog work.

Monday 3rd July 2017
WALT Create a Procedure

Success Criteria I will include:
  • A clear title
  • Ingredient list
  • Equipment list
  • Strong verbs
  • Specific nouns

How to make thick noodles from scratch

The ingredients you will need are:
Flour
Water
Chopped up vegetables (of your choice)
Oil

The equipment you will need is :
Frying pan
Kettle
Sauce pan
Chopping board
Really big bowl/ basin bowl
Rolling pin
stove

Step one
Pour your flour into a large bowl or basin bowl. There are no correct measurements you just have to eyeball it. Pour as much flour as you want the more flour the more dough.

Step two
Pour some water and mix the water and flour with your hands. Keep on kneading the dough till it is at the consistency you would like if it is too sticky add more flour, if it is too dry add more water.

Step three
sprinkle some flour over the chopping board and plop your dough on the chopping board. With a rolling pin roll your dough on the chopping board till it is flat. Then chop it into strips.

Step four
Stretch the the strips of dough you have made  until they are very long. A tip to make them long is to move it like it  is a skipping rope but not too fast. Then boil some water in your kettle. Pour your boiling water into a saucepan place the saucepan on your stove wait until water is boiling then place your long strips of dough in the saucepan wait till all the noodles are fully cooked.

Step five

Pour some oil into a fry pan then add your vegetables then mix it a round and you have a stir fry add the stir fry to your freshly made noodles and there you have it it’s done.

cyber bullying comic strip

In cyber safety we talked about emails and the right things and the wrong things with my friends I made a comic strip about cyber bullying checkout my friend's blogs they also posted this comic strip on their blogs too: Joyce's blog   Hilary's blog   Joyce was the girl getting bullied and Hilary was the first person to bully Joyce and I was the second. The moral of my comic strip is if you do something bad then you will suffer the guilt and the bad consequences. Cyber jail is just a metaphor but when you cyber-bully sometimes you get privileges taken away so it kind of feels like your in cyber jail.  You should not bully whether it is anonymous and you don't get told off or whether it is in real life and you get told off. we used speech bubbles and a comic strip template.  First we took all our pictures then we added speech and we came up with a moral. I love making comic strips they are easy and fun and explained the moral very well please read comic strip and comment what you think I could do next and how I could improve on.

Sustainability infographic

Hi blogging world it's Dora here with another learning blog post. For reading we read a book about sustainability and looking after the environment.  We also looked at an info graphic.  An Info graphic is a poster with pictures and facts.  So we made an info graphic about the book my reading group read. We tried to make it  as interesting and as cartoon like as possible. I think this is really important topic because we should always look after our environment so that we leave it in good conditions for the next generation. I think it is a very effective way to share facts because the pictures colours and shapes attracts lots of readers

Next time I would add more facts because there are lots of facts  I have not covered because there was not enough room.

Please leave a comment on my blog post saying what you liked about it and if you have learnt any facts.

De bono thinking

🍬🍭🍬 Hey everyone this is a special post👑These are my De Bono thinking hats. My thinking hats are about how I feel in my new classroom also known as an I.L.E. I love my new classroom and everything in it I share a large classroom with 75 other people our giant classroom has 4 classrooms in  it , my classroom is the biggest.🍓🍓  Our I.L.E is called Te Waka Ako,  that means the canoe of learning. The four different classrooms are named after places with water the names are Hauraki, Waitemata and Manakau. We also had a opening ceremony Michael Wood the MP of Mt Roskill cut the ribbon it was all very grand🎀✂💍.

It is very challenging to hear when there are 50 other students doing something else. It was actually easier to  write the negative thinks. It was kind of sad to leave our old classroom. But all in all the hats were easy to fill in because I had mixed feelings Here is a link so you can learn more about hats. Here is the link and some photos.

Fatu Feu'u inspried art work

This is my artwork. In this work we put all our symbols in and wrote the meanings and reasons for them. Hope you enjoy my work feel free to comment below. I really like the colour balance throughout my work. The process of the work was long, First we had to rule our lines and we had to have a very exact measurement. Then we drew out the patterns we planned in our book. After that we painted over we had to do a few coats to make it look very strong. I really love my work.
My Painting inspired by Fatu Feu’u.

Anzac experience

For writing we had to write what we did on Anzac day. I forgot what I did on Anzac day so I wrote about what I did the Tuesday before that. In this piece of writing I wrote about a girls camp that I went to. I thought it was really fun. Please comment down below what you thought about my work.

Girls camp

“Wake up Mum!”
Today was the day, not just Anzac day but the day I leave for to go to my first ever girls camp. The girls camp is in Ararimu.

My mum helped me load my luggage into my sister's car. As soon as I got there I got on to the bus.

On the bus I sat alone behind my two friends Tessa and Kaleigh. On the opposite side of my seat sat some older girls that were having a funny conversation about ASMR and I couldn’t help but tune in.

When we got to the camp the leaders finally revealed our theme and our theme was Amtrak which is a train company. But before we boarded our train we had a customs table and it was hilarious, the leaders purposely put things that aren’t allowed in camp in some people’s bags and it was hilarious what was found.

When we found what cabins we are in (Because the theme is train our cabins were called carriages.) the first thing we did was unpack and meet our hut 'Bosons' and leaders. Then we started our adventure.

In L.A it is famous for lots of things and one of them is Disneyland. For the first half of the afternoon we did fun Disney quizzes and for the other half we had rotations. We did the rotations in our carriages.

The first activity we went to was a bungee game. What you do is there is a big harness and ropes holding you back but you have to go as far as you can with the ropes pulling you back. It was funny because so people slid back on the floor.

The next activity was one of the best we played it against another team. For this game there is two ropes and two boats each team has to pick one or two people to get in the boat. The other people had to split and stand on either side of the pool and pull the rope so the boat can move the aim of the game is to knock the other team off their boat. Our team won!!

After a bunch more activities we finally had dinner and supper then went to sleep in our cabins.

I can feel ticks and lice tickling and itching me from the inside already.
The itching is unbearable. My army uniform hasn’t been washed. I am not used to being at war. I’ve only been at war for three days and already I have to itch nearly every second so dangerous that I’m scared that just because I’m itching I get killed.
Free illustration: Heart, Cartoon, Drawing, Mesh - Free Image on ...
I feel home sick and scared because the conditions of these trenches are just awful I try to keep my feet on dry ground so my feet aren’t in the wet for too long so I can hopefully survive this awful war and hopefully not get sick.
Thought, Bubble - Free images on Pixabay
I really hope I don’t get killed. I really don't know how long this exciting and terrifying adventure will take all I know is that
I wish I never signed up for this. Hopefully I’ll come back as a hero who fought for their country. This is really  no man’s land.
In celebration of Anzac Day, we wrote diaries using our senses. We pretended that we were new soldiers that have been at war for three days. Have a look at my work. Writing this work was fun because you had to think back to war even though I wasn't alive then. Feel free to comment what you think about my trench diary.

In cyber smart we thought about who our audiences were in the blogging world. Feel free to comment down below how you feel about my work. I thought that the work is easy but really fun how to find these pictures. Please take a look at my work.
